African smartphone market shrinks in Q4, feature phone sales rise

Africa's smartphone market suffered a quarter-on-quarter decline of 6.4 percent during Q4 2017, according to International Data Corporation (IDC). Its Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker shows smartphone shipments were down to 20.3 million units for the quarter. Year on year, this is an 18.0 percent decline, meaning the YoY improvement in Q3 did not extend to the year's traditionally strongest quarter.
