Airtel Kenya takes court action against tax office over imports of parabolic antennae

Monday 19 November 2018 | 10:03 CET | News
Airtel Kenya is in a court battle with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) over the importation of equipment that the tax office suspects is meant for TV and radio and not voice calls, reports Business Daily. Airtel wants the court to order the Commissioner of Customs to release the parabolic antennae being held at the Port of Mombasa. It also wants the KRA to be stopped from issuing agency notices that compel third parties to release cash to the KRA on the basis of TV antennae, which attract higher taxes than those used by mobile phone firms.
