Airtel Nigeria says ICT start-ups could boost national GDP

Airtel Nigeria says disruptive technologies can contribute significantly to the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) if ICT start-ups are encouraged to create innovations that deliver value. The firm's MD Segun Ogunsanya told a forum that ICT currently contributes up to 9 percent of national GDP and there is potential for growth if start-ups can explore the available opportunities, despite the current dollar rate. Ogunsanya said Nigeria needs to change from an import-based economy to export-based economy.
