Airtel Nigeria sees broadband generating USD 190 mln GDP

Nigeria's telecommunications sector is expected to contribute about USD 190 million to Nigerian GDP through broadband services by 2015. Airtel Nigeria's director for regulatory affairs, Osondu Nwokoro, said telecoms companies have generated 3 million jobs and invested well over USD 16 billion in the country since the liberalisation of the sector in 1999, the Guardian reported. He said the sector remains a key driving force for the economy and broadband services will boost the country's GDP by USD 190 million in the next three years.
