Airtel Tanzania gives up part of its stake to government, agrees to pay dividends

Airtel Tanzania has agreed to give up a part of its stake to the government, raising the state's shareholding to 49 percent from 40 percent, the president's office said, according to Reuters. This following a meeting between President John Magufuli and Bharti Airtel's chairman Sunil Mittal on 11 January to resolve a dispute over the ownership of the mobile operator. Bharti Airtel will retain a 51 percent stake in the company, the president's office said.
