Airtel Uganda to maintain pre-paid data prices despite 12% tax

Monday 5 July 2021 | 14:42 CET | News
Airtel Uganda says it will maintain its pre-paid data prices despite the new 12 percent excise duty on the internet, which took effect on 01 July. The introduction of the new tax and abolition of Over The Top (OTT) levy follows the passing of the Excise Duty (Amendment) Bill 2021 by the Parliament of Uganda on 29 April. It said its subscribers will not be required to pay an OTT levy in order to access social media websites and apps, but it will introduce the 12 percent excise tax  as mandated by the government.
