Alcatel-Lucent completes US-Ecuador submarine cable system

Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks has announced that the Pacific Caribbean Cable System (PCCS), a 6,000 km undersea cable linking Florida and Ecuador, has entered into commercial service. The system uses multi-channel 100 gigabits-per-second (Gbit/s) technology and has an ultimate design capacity of 80 terabits-per-second (Tbit/s), said Alcatel-Lucent in a statement, adding that it will serve to boost connectivity and substantially increase the availability of broadband services throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America.
