Alcatel-Lucent plans to cut 1,000 jobs in India - report

Alcatel-Lucent plans to cut almost 1,000 jobs in India, or 9 percent of its workers in the country, as part of the restructuring it announced in July, reports Economic Times, citing two unnamed senior executives. On 26 July, the company announced a plan to cut 5,000 jobs worldwide by the end of 2013 in an effort to save EUR 1.25 billion in costs. According to the report, the staff most likely to be affected are the nearly 7,000 workers in business support and managed services, who primarily maintain and manage Reliance Communications' CDMA and GSM networks and Barti Airtel's landline and
