Alcatel-Lucent: VDSL2, vectoring not enough for 100 Mbps

Alcatel-Lucent is presenting a new technology aimed at improving broadband performance over copper lines. The G.inp standard is expected to increase signal stability and reduce latency by limiting interference. In combination with VDSL2 and vectoring, this should make speeds of 100 Mbps over copper possible, the company said. In principle, VDSL2 alone supports speeds up to 100 Mbps at a maximum distance of 500m. Vectoring is used to reduce crosstalk on the line created by adjacent copper lines. G.inp, known as G.998.4 in ITU standards, also combats interference generated by household
