Alcatel-Lucent agrees to pay fine to settle bribery claim

Alcatel-Lucent has agreed to pay USD 137.4 million to avoid US prosecution for alleged bribes paid in several countries, including Kenya, Taiwan and Costa Rica, according to a regulatory filing on 11 February. Bloomberg writes that under the agreement in principle, the US Justice Department would defer prosecution, Alcatel-Lucent would enter into a three-year probationary period and would be subject to a French anti-corruption monitor.
