Algeria internet traffic hit by submarine cable cut

Algeria has suffered disruptions to internet service since a submarine cable was cut on 22 October. Algerie Telecom CEO Azouaou Mehmel said work started 24 October on repairing the cable and the operator hopes to have services restored within a week, El Watan reports. The cut to the Sea-Me-We-4 cable at Annaba resulted in Algerie Telecom losing 80 percent of its international bandwidth. It has tried to compensate by routing capacity over its second cable, connecting Algiers to Palma.
