Algeria to see no ISP price hike, raises phone import duty

Monday 1 February 2016 | 11:11 CET | News
Algerian ICT minister Imane Houda Feraoun told Al Watan newspaper that internet access prices will not be increased, unlike other services such as electricity, gas and petrol. She said global trends show declining internet access prices as operators increase their investment in content to generate profit. Faced with falling oil revenues, Algeria's 2016 budget act sets a 30 percent import duty on IT equipment (PCs, servers, etc). Separately, Le Soir d'Algerie reports that the duty on 3G phones will rise from 7 percent to 17 percent.
