ALTON denies operators are involved in SIM swap fraud

Nigerian telecommunications operators and commercial banks have denied involvement in SIM swap frauds, reports CommunicationsWeek. The fraudster obtains an individual's banking details through phishing or by purchasing information from organised crime networks. Gbolahan Awonuga, executive secretary of the Association of Licensed Telecoms Companies of Nigeria (ALTON), said that telcos should not be blamed for loss of cash to fraudsters through SIM swaps.
