Amazon has announced three new renewable energy projects in the US and Spain as part of its pledge to have 100 percent renewable energy sources by 2030 and to be net zero carbon by 2040. The 149-MW solar power farm near Seville in Spain is the company's first large-scale project in the country and will join a 100-MW solar plant in Lee County, Illinois, plus a 80-MW solar project in Northern Virginia.
Together, the three projects will generate almost 700,000 MWh of renewable energy power a year for Amazon's fulfilment network in Europe and Amazon Web Services' data centres. To date, Amazon has launched over 70 renewable energy projects, including wind and solar farms, that will provide over 1,900 MW of renewable capacity and are projected to deliver more than 5.3 million MWh of renewable energy annually.
