AMTOB: scrap Sim tax for higher govt earnings

The Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) has proposed the withdrawal of Sim taxes. The Association says that if the tax is cut to zero, this would add BDT 10.05 billion to the government's exchequer in next three years. The group has sent their proposal to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and held talks with the tax authority, the Dhaka Tribune reports. According to AMTOB's calculations, scrapping the tax would cost the government BDT 54.5 billion in the next three years but at the same time the government would earn BDT 24.3 billion in value-added taxes, BDT 29.2
