Amtob welcomes access to NID database

Thursday 27 March 2014 | 23:54 CET | News
The Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (Amtob) has welcomed the government's decision to provide access to the Election Commission's National ID (NID) database to verify subscriber information before activating new mobile phone connections. Ambtob said the verification process has to be comprehensive and should not deprive genuine subscribers. The group hopes the government will provide further access to similar databases in the future to allow mobile operators to determine genuine subscribers' identities while protecting national security.
