Anatel holds public hearing on femtocells

Thursday 17 January 2013 | 10:53 CET | News
Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) held a public hearing on 16 January to discuss the proposed standard for use of femtocells in mobile or corporate wireless networks. These facilities operate as an extension of mobile telephone masts, relaying the operator's signal indoors. The service should start operating from April, according to the Superintendent of Private Services at Anatel, Bruno Ramos. The equipment, according to Anatel, does not represent a hazard to health, as radiation levels are low. The goal is to increase network capacity for voice and data mobile services.
