Android takes 68.5% of smartphone market in West Europe

Google's Android operating system furthered strengthened its lead in the top five smartphone markets in Europe with a 68.5 percent share of sales in the three months to January, according to the latest data from Kantar WorldPanel. Apple was in second place with 19.0 percent of smartphone sales in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy, while Windows Phone remains the fastest growing European OS, with 10.1 percent share. Among Android manufacturers, Samsung remains dominant with a 39.5 percent share of sales, but this was down from a year earlier as companies such as LG (6.9%), Sony (9.4%)
