Apple most popular, as total HK sales for smart devices fall

Apple sold the most smart devices in Hong Kong last year, bucking the trend for total sales for smartphones, tablets and laptops which fell 5 percent to HKD 31.63 billion from 33.27 billion the year before, the South China Morning Post reported, citing a study by GfK. The total number of smartphones sold last year reached 5.5 million units, down from 6.1 million in 2012. Tablet sales increased to 1.6 million units last year from 1.3 million the year before while laptop sales declined to 486,000 units from 522,000. For the quarter to end December, total spending declined 7 percent to HKD 8.4
