Arcep meets union over telecom job losses

French trade union Force Ouvriere has met with telecom regulator Arcep to discuss the future of the sector in light of the arrival of Free Mobile and its low-cost model. The unions fear that some 30,000 jobs will be lost, mainly in call centres, in the next few years. Arcep places the figure at around 10,000 job losses. The regulator expects new jobs to be created in related sectors, notably online. It states that telecoms industry jobs are crucial to the digital economy, which has doubled its workforce in the last 15 years and is expected to continue growing significantly in the next few
