Arcep proposes changes to mobile coverage maps

Friday 29 July 2016 | 09:46 CET | News
French regulator Arcep has published a draft decision for consultation regarding coverage maps for mobile voice and SMS services. The proposed measures aim to improve the quality of these maps, imposing new obligations to mobile operators. In particular, Arcep wants to introduce a distinction between areas where coverage is good and those where coverage is limited. It also plans to make the maps available as open data files to encourage their usage by app developers. The proposed changes are been made possible by new legislation, including a new digital law coming into effect in September.
