Argentina to link IMEI to SIM to combat phone theft

Argentina's telecommunications regulator Enacom and its communications and security ministries have announced further details of their plans to combat phone theft by requiring the country's operators to validate the link between individual mobile devices and user SIMs. Under the new proposals, operators will need to ensure that a mobile phone's IMEI corresponds with the user's SIM card and that any attempts to use another SIM will result in an ID check. "We want to make sure a SIM card cannot operate when it doesn't correspond with the IMEI," said Argentina's security minister Patricia
