Argentinian operators told to set up mobile user register

Argentina is set to require the country's operators to verify and identify all mobile phone users via a central register with a view to reducing the trafficking of stolen handsets, reports local daily Infobae, citing a decision published in the country's official gazette. The decision states that the operators themselves must pay to "develop, operate and manage" the register, which is being set after telecommunications regulator Enacom ordered all mobile service providers to block equipment reported as lost or stolen.
