Arianespace loses Vega rocket shortly after launch

Thursday 11 July 2019 | 13:45 CET | News

Arianespace lost its Vega rocket and its payload shortly after launch of its VV15 mission due to a major anomaly. The mission's payload was UAE' FalconEye1 communications satellite. The fault occurred approximately two minutes after liftoff and made the launcher deviate from its course before falling into the Atlantic Ocean.

The anomaly occurred during the launcher's second stage ignition. An independent inquiry commission will be set up by the company to investigate the incident. Data analyses are in progress to clarify this failure' reasons, the company said. Arianspace delayed the mission twice due to unfavorable weather conditions.
