ARM, Applied Micro, Netzyn launch virtual STB platform

UK chipmaker ARM, Applied Micro and server software developer Netzyn have announced a new virtual set-top box (vSTB) reference platform which uses network functions virtualization (NFV). The new vSTB platform runs on cloud servers powered by Applied Micro's X-Gene SoC and, according to the partners, offers the potential to reduce network operator CapEx and OpEx, as well as increase ARPU. The platform will be demonstrated at NFV World Congress.
