Arpce shortens Airtel, MTN licences over poor QoS

Congo telecom regulator Arpce has sanctioned mobile operators Airtel and MTN by shortening their 15-year 2G and 3G licences by one year, for failing to offer adequate quality of service. The decision, which will be enacted by ministerial decree, comes after nearly a month of tests across the country in July. The authority found that the two operators' services were unsatisfactory relative to international standards, especially concerning voice quality. Airtel and MTN Congo previously committed bring their service quality in line with licence conditions within six months after the Arpce fined
