AT&T asks FCC for spectrum to test 5G

Friday 5 February 2016 | 11:23 CET | News
AT&T has filed an application to the FCC for a three-year licence to test 5G technology in its home market Austin, Texas, Light Reading reports. Wireless consulting engineer Steve Crowley spotted the filings and posted them on Twitter. AT&T asked for clearance to use the 3.5GHz, 4GHz, 15GHz and 28GHz bands to test potential 5G technologies. The operator said it expects the 3GPP to finalise the 5G standards in 2018-19. AT&T's main rival Verizon has also said it plans to start testing 5G this year.
