AT&T declares 1,800 wireline jobs as 'surplus' - union

The 1,800 "surplus" elimination will mainly affect wireline technicians who fix customer problems, install new service, and who are working on AT&T's fibre expansion. AT&T has building out its FTTH network over the past years to 12.5 million customer locations to meet a government mandate imposed on its purchase of DirecTV. The company has fulfilled the mandated deployment and is now slowing down fibre deployments.
