AT&T, Ericsson, Orange, Qualcomm demo Gigabit LTE over LAA

AT&T, Ericsson, Orange and Qualcomm Technologies have joined forces to give a live demonstration of Gigabit LTE using LAA (license assisted access) technology at Mobile World Congress. The event will be the first time that peak speeds of 1Gbps can be achieved using carrier aggregation of licensed and unlicensed spectrum on a commercial chipset, Qualcomm said. The chipsets supporting the technology will become available on smartphones later this year, enabling AT&T to offer theoretical speeds of 1 Gbps in selected locations before the end of 2017. This will rely on small cells and carrier
