AT&T Mexico planning to switch off 2G network

Wednesday 16 January 2019 | 11:54 CET | News
AT&T Mexico is set to switch off its 2G mobile service in the coming months, reports local business daily El Economista, citing company sources. The service is currently used by less than 1 percent of the operator's subscribers and the blackout could occur as early as April, said the report, adding that a suspension would allow AT&T to free up spectrum and increase the capacity of its 4G LTE network. In fact the US firm said data traffic has surged by more than 240 percent since the start of 2017.
