AT&T, Nextel Mexico inform Ifetel about acquisition plans

AT&T and Nextel have officially informed the country's telecoms regulator Ifetel about the agreement through which the US telco plans to buy Nextel Mexico for USD 1.875 billion, Jornada reports. The agreement between the two operators had been signed last month. The regulator will analyse the possible acquisition in the coming days, according to the report. AT&T said Nextel's network covers some 76 million people, helping it realise its goal of creating a unified North American network spanning the US and Mexico and covering over 400 million people.
