AT&T raises internet prices in California to recover property taxes

Monday 14 October 2019 | 07:57 CET | News
AT&T doubled from 1 October its 'AT&T Cost Assessment Charge' imposed to internet customers in California to recover its property taxes, according to online publication ArsTechnica.com citing an AT&T email sent to end-users. The email said their monthly rate will be raised from 2.92 percent to 7.00 percent of the total AT&T Business Internet, Phone and/or U-verse TV monthly charges. This charge is not a tax or fee that the government requires AT&T to collect from its customer, AT&T said in the email. AT&T has been charging the fee for at least a couple of years.
