Atea wins Swedish deal to develop Facebook deaf-blind app

Swedish postal and telecoms regulator PTS said it has commissioned Norwegian IT company Atea to develop an application enabling deaf-blind people to use Facebook. An needs analysis found that deaf-blind people wish to use the same communication services as anyone else. Facebook has a complicated interface that needs adapting for this sector. For instance, it requires enlargement programmes, a speech synthesiser and a braille display. The aim is to have the service up and running by spring 2014.
