Australia senate adopts mandatory data retention legislation

Friday 27 March 2015 | 10:38 CET | News
The Australian Senate has passed legislation that will force telecommunications companies to retain customer data for two years for warrantless access by law enforcement, ZDNet reports. The legislation will see call records, assigned IP addresses, location information, billing information, and other customer data stored for two years. Operators will have 18 months after the legislation is passed into law to get systems in place and thus comply with the law.
