Austria makes 900 MHz, 1800 MHz spectrum technology-neutral

Wednesday 30 July 2014 | 09:23 CET | News
Austrian regulator RTR has decided to allow the transfer of existing usage rights for the GSM frequencies 900 MHz and 1800 MHz for 3G and 4G usage, too. RTR telecoms and postal services department head Johannes Gungl said the liberalisation would benefit all three mobile operators by enabling them to provide broadband services via UMTS and LTE, too. He said the change raises the amount of spectrum available for broadband from 59 percent to almost 90 percent.
