Avanti wins UK universal broadband contract

Avanti Communications has won a new contract from BT to be part of BT's supply of wholesale consumer broadband services which will be sold onwards to consumers in the UK through a network of satellite resellers. This is part of part of the British Government's Universal Service Commitment. This plan will see up to 300,000 homes which cannot access greater than 2 Mbps from terrestrial networks become eligible to receive a contribution from government to fund the installation of satellite broadband services. The consumer will pay the monthly service charge, with the scheme expected to go live
