Baden-Wurttemberg sidesteps Berlin for EU broadband approval

The government of the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg said it expanding its second broadband initiative with amendments to make it fit for European Commission approval. The regional state used to be able to subsidise projects that were not commerically viable, but the national government had failed to renew its notification of the relevant protocol to the European Union. This left thirteen municipal councils without subsidies from the regional government, said Consumer Minister Alexander Bonde.
