Bangladesh bans operators from selling mobile services to Rohingya refugees

According to telecoms minister Tarana Halim, the decision to impose a communication blackout on the stateless Muslim minority is justified for security reasons. Bangladesh already prohibits the sale of SIM cards to its own citizens who cannot provide an official identity card. The measure seeks to reduce the organisational capacity of homegrown militants.
