Bangladesh ISPs restore upload speeds after VoIP control bid

Monday 20 May 2013 | 10:56 CET | News
Bangladesh's telecom regulator withdrew its directive on 19 May to ISPs to lower internet uploading speeds in a bid to control illegal VoIP. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) sent letters to all the international internet gateways to restore normal internet speeds, according to local television news. The BTRC had directed internet gateways to reduce the upload bandwidth by 75 percent in a bid to check illegal VoIP. However, the decision has been massively criticised in social media and other internet user platforms.
