Bangladesh mobile operators urge govt to revise telecom budget proposal

The Association of Mobile Telecommunication Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) has urged the government to reconsider its budget proposal for the telecom sector. The 2019 tax proposals defined in the budget include the increase of the supplementary duty on services provided through mobile phone SIM/RIM card from 5 percent to 10 percent. The proposal also doubles the SIM tax from BDT 100 to BDT 200. The proposal includes a 15 percent tax on retained earnings for listed companies; and a minimum tax for mobile companies raised from 0.75 percent to 2 percent of turnover. The import duty on
