Base Q1 revenues down 2.1%, EBITDA falls 11%

Belgian mobile operator Base recorded a 2.1 percent annual drop in first-quarter sales to EUR 177 million. A 4.4 percent fall in service revenues due to price pressure in the competitive market was compensated in part by higher handset sales. EBITDA fell 11 percent to EUR 41 million, impacted by the new tax on antennas in Wallonia, the lower revenues and higher network costs. The EBITDA margin was down to 23.2 percent from 25.1 a year earlier.
