BBC 50:50 Project shows higher levels of female representation

Wednesday 15 May 2019 | 17:53 CET | News

The BBC has published the results of its 50:50 Project, showing a big increase in female representation in BBC programmes.

Three quarters (74%) of teams monitoring their output for 12 months or more reached 50 percent of female contributors on air in April 2019. More than 500 teams across the corporation have now signed up for the grassroots initiative, which challenges teams to achieve 50 percent female contributors in English language news, topical and current affairs programmes.

The BBC has made a commitment to reach 50 percent women on-screen, on-air and in lead roles across all genres by 2020.
