The BBC is understood to have held talks with rivals including ITV and NBCUniversal about launching a subscription video streaming service, the Guardian reports. The service is likely to focus on providing older, archive TV content, not first-run shows, although it would have a certain amount of original commissions. The BBC/ITV plan was described by multiple sources as at a very early "explore and evaluate" stage, the report said. ITV and the BBC's commercial arm BBC Worldwide declined to comment.
