Belgian music streaming market grows 64% in 2016

Tuesday 7 March 2017 | 15:41 CET | News
Music sales in Belgium rose 6.9 percent in 2016, thanks to over 64 percent growth in paid music streaming, according to figures from Gfk and the industry group BEA Music. Online music rose to over 46 percent of sales last year from 37 percent in 2015, while physical products such as CDs, DVDs and increasingly vinyl accounted for 53.5 percent or EUR 63.2 million. Downloads fell to 13 percent of sales, compared to a 33 percent share for streaming. BEA Music said the streaming market has not yet reached its peak, with plenty of growth still possible in Belgium compared to neighbouring countries.
