Belgium calls for more EU efforts to fight telecom duopolies

Belgian telecom minister Alexander de Croo has criticised the European Commission's telecom reform proposals, saying they don't give regulators enough power to address the threat of duopolies. While De Croo welcomed parts of the proposal, such as changes to the universal service directive to ensure broadband for all, he said more needs to be done to safeguard competition. In several EU countries, markets are evolving from one dominant incumbent to a duopoly of two dominant operators that own both fixed and mobile networks.
