Belgium to hold mobile spectrum auction in September

Friday 5 March 2010 | 10:05 CET | News
The Belgian government will hold an auction for the country's fourth 3G licence and five spectrum blocks for LTE in September, De Standaard reported. The first auction will be for the UMTS licence which found no buyer in a 2001 auction. The 15 MHz block has to yield at least EUR 80 million, or EUR 40 million for 5 MHz blocks. Cable operators Telenet and Voo are reportedly interested. In 2001, Belgacom, Mobistar and KPN Belgian paid EUR 150 million for the blocks. The five 2.6 GHz spectrum licences are divided into four blocks of 15 MHz for LTE, which are expected to sell for at least EUR 15
