Brazil considers ending fixed-line concessions

Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) is discussing a proposal that virtually does away with fixed-line concessions in the country, reports O Globo. Under the proposal, the concessions of Telefonica (Sao Paulo), Sercomtel (Londrina, Parana and vicinity), CTBC/Algar (about 80 municipalities in Sao Paulo, Goias, Mato Grosso do Sul and Minas Gerais) and Oi (rest of the country) for fixed telephony would be narrowed only to locations where public phones are the only option for the population to communicate.
