Brazil pay-TV channels increase despite drop in customers

The number of pay-TV subscribers in Brazil dropped by 4.4 percent from June 2016 to December 2017, while in the same period the number of pay-TV channels grew by 6.1 percent, from 203 to 214, according to a report on the pay-TV market by the national cinema agency Ancine. The vast majority of the new channels were offered in HD, with a total of 100 HD channels available in the market, or 46.7 percent of the total. While in June 2016 29.3 percent of the subscriber base had HD channels, in December 2017 the percentage was 37.3 percent. Globo and Time Warner together accounted for 56.1 percent
