Brazil to bring broadband to 9.3 mln people in Amazon region

The Brazilian government is planning to expand the country's telecom infrastructure in the North and bring digital inclusion to people living in the Amazon region. The "Programa Norte Conectado" consists of nine stages and foresees the construction of 10,000 km of fibre optic infrastructure, linking 59 municipalities of six states and serving more 9.3 million people. Initially, a 650-km stretch of fibre will be built in the region, linking four cities: Macapa, Alenquer, Almeirim and Santarem and providing broadband internet access to 950,000 people. The total cost of the project is estimated
