Brazilian regulator cuts Oi debts in half to BRL 7.2 billion

Monday 30 November 2020 | 08:47 CET | News
Brazilian operator Oi has reached an agreement with the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to pay off its debt arising from fines for breaches in providing service. The company will pay BRL 7.2 billion, half the original debt, in seven years. The negotiation was mediated by the Advocacy General of the Union after President Jair Bolsonaro introduced a measure allowing federal public agencies to give discounts and parcel out debts with companies. Oi originally owned BRL 14.3 billion from 198 fines, according to Folha de Sao Paulo.
